Environmental Studies

A three pronged approach has been taken to implement environmental studies that are scientifically/technically focused and aim to provide information that can be used in due course to progress development design for the various land parcels held by the company.

The first of these is a Spring flora survey.  This work has been undertaken over the past 6 months by a team of Botanists from Cardno BSD.  It has involved on site surveys over a number of separate visits and has been undertaken in accordance with EPA Guidance Statement No. 51.  It provides an indication of the flora species (diversity), vegetation communities and vegetation conditions across the site.

The second is a Level 1 fauna survey in line with EPA Guidance Statement No. 56.  The actual scope has been expanded from what is generally associated with a Level 1 survey.  This investigation provides an indication of the likely presence of any significant fauna species (based on historic survey work undertaken in the wider area) and then based on a comprehensive site inspection (over four days) the diversity, distribution and quality of various fauna habitat types across the land.

The third has been a detailed land capability assessment, which looks at the soils, landforms and hydrological features (both surface and groundwater) across the land holdings and therefore the suitability of the land to support rural-residential or residential development without the risk of land degradation occurring.  This has been based on an existing land capability assessment undertaken previously by the State Government but focused specifically (and at a much finer scale) on the Gidgegannup land holdings.

Additional studies are also being considered for the Gidgegannup land holdings based on feedback from various stakeholders.  Port Bouvard Ltd will continue to work with the community to inform them of these studies and their progress.
