Economic Development

The Swan City Council's guiding economic objective for Gidgegannup is to provide " ...a Competitive diversified economic environment capable of generating wealth and employment for local residents and investors..."

In bringing this vision to fruition, the Experience Gidgegannup in the Hills strategy and action plan identifies key opportunities and constraints relating to value-adding rural production, rural and tourism product diversification and eco-tourism. Both the Swan City Council and the Government of Western Australia are focused on ensuring that economic development occurs in a way that utilises the unique rural and landscape character to provide local economic development and preserve the Hills lifestyle.

The vision and supporting principles suggest a local economy characterised by clusters of niche businesses and services with strong ties to agriculture, tourism, cultural activities and the local community. Growth in the local population will undoubtedly facilitate this development as like-minded families and individuals are attracted to, and integrate with the community.

The creation of local employment opportunities as the village grows will also help ensure that Gidgegannup grows in a sustainable way with interdependencies between complementary businesses helping to reinforce a strong, independent community with a distinct character.

Business opportunities in Gidgegannup

The existing businesses in Gidgegannup will form the basis for the growth of the village and will be complemented over time with the addition of new businesses.

Complementary businesses as well as other enterprises that wish to focus on the eco-tourism aspect such as outward bound, adventure sports and spiritual healing will be attracted to the village.
